Stopped into Green Gables on our way home from the Ashfall fossil beds, it's right down the street. They have a cafe, as well as shopping that's mixed with antiques, old stuff, and new stuff.
With 5 of us arriving for lunch I worried about how small it was inside because there were several cars in the parking lot already, but we found a booth that sat 6 so it was fine. You order at the counter when you are ready and then they bring it out to you. The service was really friendly, and took a reasonable amount of time. The food was all home cooked and tasted very good.
They had a wide variety of items for sale such as clothing, accessories kitchen items, home decor, and antique knickknacks.
It was a really good place to stop! -

Free scold with order--
This place was recommended, so imagine my surprise, when, after I told her, I'd never stopped before, for her to say, "WELL, SHAME ON YOU." This, of course, took me aback, since I've not been in kindergarden for some time. I told her that was not very nice, that I wasn't five -- and she laughed and said it again. "And I will tell everyone you said it," I said (and so I am). She seemed surprised that scolding her customer was taken so badly and pseudo-apologized (sorry not sorry). I suppose she is just riding on her reputation of having a cute place, but the best pies in the world (which I havn't tried yet) and the cutest decor means nothing if the help hasn't been trained to be courteous. -

We stopped by for lunch after visiting Ashfall fossil beds. We waited about 45 minutes for a table and probably another 45 min. to get mediocre food. We love supporting local businesses but this amount of waiting is ridiculous, especially when there are little ones. strawberry rhubarb pie was too sweet in my opinion. Pie portions are large but food portions were smaller by US standards but are reasonable. Skip this place if you're in a hurry. Flea market on 3rd Saturdays in summer months. Antiques sold upstairs.

Settled in between farms and rolling Nebraska hills, Green Gables is a family-run diner with mediocre cheeseburgers, sweet potato salad, and very tasty (though expensive) homemade pies.
My grandma and I stopped here after visiting the Ashfall fossil beds nearby. Green Gables has that rustic, dilapidated barnyard feel that you see everywhere around here, but the food itself ended up being kind of a let-down. The curly fries were great, but the burger was a bit dry and the bun tasted cheap. To be honest, I bet the petrified rhino fossils tasted juicier. My grandma's chicken was fine. The beans and potato salad were over sweetened though.
Pie. That's what you're here for, and that's what you should leave with. I say skip the food if you can and walk out with an armful of caramel apple and rhubarb. Your road trip will be that much better. -

Really cute place with good pies and nicely decorated. The pies are a bit pricey though. I had a burger and it was just ok, but its probably the best place to eat between Royal and Orchard. Its cool because its truly in the country. The upstairs shop is neat, although I can't say that I found anything that I would care to buy. Worth checking out.
